Eyeglasses vs Contact Lenses: Which One Is Best for You?

An optometrist recently informed you that you will need to wear eyeglasses or contacts to improve your condition. You may be wondering which type of medical device will be best for you. In truth, it depends on your preference, comfort, budget, lifestyle, and convenience. Before you make a decision, you should know that one medical device is not better than the other. Both have their advantages and disadvantages. If you don’t know which one is best for you, you can rely on the advice of Dr. Lippman and Dr. Gold, who are our optometrists from Eye Land in Rockville, MD, & Silver Spring, MD, to help you choose.

The Facts About Eyeglasses and Contacts

The most popular option for vision correction is eyeglasses, and it has many benefits. Glasses can protect your eyes from wind-driven hazards such as dust and dirt flying through the air. They can also decrease your risk of contracting an eye infection, can be adjusted easily for maximum comfort and vision, and are much cheaper than contacts. You don’t need to clean them often or touch your eyes directly. What’s more, you can choose from a wide selection of designer frames to enhance your look. The downsides of eyeglasses are that they can obstruct your vision or break. They can also make it difficult to see well when it is raining or foggy.

Contact lenses allow you to participate in events without having you worry about them falling off. They don’t interfere with your vision since they sit directly on your eyes. If you like to change your appearance a bit, you can order color contacts. Weather conditions are not a problem with contact lenses. A few obstacles with contacts are that you need to properly care for them to prevent eye infection, they can dry your eyes out quickly, and not everyone can wear contact lenses.
